It happens to all of us sometimes - that we rush out of the door only to forget something that we need for a meeting.

Help yourself to avoid having to arrive at your meeting without something you need.

Make a checklist of things that you need to do or take with you before a meeting. Then, moments before leaving for your meeting, tick items off.

Your list might include some of the following things:

  •  business cards
  • brochures, testimonials, or case studies
  • notepad and pens
  • charts, graphs, or other materials that you intend to show the customer
  • samples of any products that you have
  • your customer’s address and telephone number in case you get lost or delayed and need to call ahead to warn your customer that you are going to be late.

You don’t necessarily need a business card. But you do need to be able to leave something (ex headed notepaper, a brochure, a hand-written compliments slip) with your contact details on so that the customer can get in touch with you quickly and easily.

And don’t forget to think about how you will dress. You might want to wear a suit if you are meeting a customer in a conservative industry like investment banking or
accountancy. On the other hand, meeting a customer in the fashion business or someone who runs their own small business may warrant dressing less formally. Ten minutes of thought could make the difference between winning or losing the customer.
